Triaxis
The Welsh metal band return to the Welsh capital to cause a stir and that they did. Kicking off in fine heavy style with a classic/thrash metal attack. The twin guitar interplay of Glyn and CJ was excellent with definite hints to Maiden, Priest and even some Megadeth. With a mix of tracks from their last album Keys To The Kingdom and their upcoming album Rage And Retribution the band had a broad spectrum of tracks to get heads banging and fists pumping with Lies doing so in great style. With front woman Krissie and rhythm guitarist CJ taking centre stage (and with good reason sorry boys!) the band were on fire throughout the drums of Giles were skull-rattling, the bass of Owen locked in for a classic gallop and when Glyn took center stage and peeled off a fantastic solo it was the icing on the metal cake. Running through a great set list the band climaxed with storming cover of Wicker Man to end in style showing just how good this band are on the live stage. A band well worth catching when they tour next. 8/10
Tygers Of Pan Tang
The NWOBHM veterans have always been less well known than some of their higher-profile compatriots but they have managed to survive despite many line-up changes. Guitarist Robb Weir is the only original member and he was giving it all he had, even when his guitar crashed out. After some frantic repair work the sound was back for the rest of the set. Mixing classics like Hellbound, Don’t Touch Me There and Suzie Smiled with some of the more modern tracks the band were on good form however what did annoy me somewhat was the voice of singer Jacopo Meille who was trying very hard to be Robert Plant and really his voice did not suit the band’s old style metal sound. The band were good but Meille’s vocals just didn’t do it for me and their sound was a little rough in places (although I’m unsure whose fault that was). These two factors were a bit of a shame but they were still quite enjoyable if not a little generic. 6/10
