1. Please introduce yourself for anyone who may not know you. Tell us a little bit more about you as a band.
Karmen Field’s high energy shows harness the anger that we all share and put it to good use. Our aim is to champion the underdog and (pleasantly) surprise everyone in the room. Riffage for days, addictive bass lines, big boy beats to bang your head to, and grungy vocals that will rip your heart out. In a previous Musipedia of Metal article, We were described as avant garde metallic music. We blend the elements of grunge, prog and thrash to create our unique style. Our album, “Black Star Emperor”, and single, “Sticky Jam”, is available to listen to on all streaming services, if you haven’t heard us yet.
2. What made you want to participate in the Metal To The Masses South Wales 2025 campaign? Have you had previous experience? Or is this your first time?
Third times the charm, that’s what they say right?! We know from rodeos one and two (M2TM SW 2022 and 2023) that Metal to the Masses is a battle of the bands that inspires you to amount to your utmost potential. Week after week we were competing against our peers, the people who we have gigged with, or want to gig with. That kind of intense competitive atmosphere with people you respect and admire, just lights a fire under your ass like nothing else we’ve ever experienced as a band. It’s a physical, creative and mental challenge, whilst being a totally wild ride, and we can’t wait to get back on this crazy train, to have a shot at winning Metal to the Masses South Wales 2025!
3. M2TM is all about supporting your local scene. How important is the local scene to you as a band?
The local scene in Cardiff and South Wales is a brotherhood, an undeniably incredible network of creative people supporting each other in the thing we love the most. It’s crazy heart-warming to see so many metal heads showing constant unwavering support to Karmen Field over the years we’ve been performing. There’s real loyalty in this community. Bands, promoters, organisers, sound engineers, photographers, roadies, security, bar staff …and more, we have all created this one of a kind experience that’s so inclusive and inviting. Even though, Cardiff has lost so many precious grassroots venues over time, so in turn the local scene keeps evolving and growing every day. This is why events like M2TM are so important, for keeping this unique scene alive.
4. What are your expectations from being a part of M2TM?
The best part about the competition for us, is meeting the other bands and witnessing their performances, often for the first time, moments later. You can just never predict what’s going to happen during a live performance, or how someone is going to make you feel as an audience member. As a fellow performer and competitor, that keeps us on our toes! When we competed in M2TM before, we found it was the perfect opportunity to meet bands to get gig swaps and support acts for our events we’ve held over the last year. All of us are addicted to live music, and can’t wait to see the new talent that we will be competing with in this years competition …
5. What would playing a Sold Out Bloodstock Festival mean to you?
We have been pilgrims of the pits of Bloodstock ourselves the last decade, we can honestly say that the thought of performing at a sold out Bloodstock this year, is beyond glorious. We’ve come so close to winning the South Wales M2TM twice before, this is our last chance to prove to the powers that be that Karmen Field belong on that New Blood Stage. Especially this year, alongside such monsters as Gojira and Mastodon.

6. We encourage all the bands in M2TM to try and check out the other bands, who are you most looking forward to? Who should your fans also try to catch?
Struggler, no doubt, Because they’re shit hot and know how to put on a seriously heavy show.
And Garbage Day Massacre, because we’ve not seen them yet, but they look like they put on a wild performance, and we love a bit of theatre.
