1. Please introduce yourself for anyone who may not know you. Tell us a little bit more about you as a band.
Greetings mortals! We are Garbage Day Massacre, a 365 day a year HALLOWEEN themed band quite often coined as Wales’ answer to ‘The Misfits’!
Fronted by Trash van Helsing, axed to death by Captain Spauldbin and beaten to a pulp by Bin Diesel, this HELLRAISER trio like to party like its October, even in March!
Being horror obsessed PSYCHO zombie bin men and having raided every cemetery in Barry, the fearsome funk descend their decomposed digits on Cardiff for a night of deathly debauchery! If you’re zany for zombies or cuckoo for killers then we summon you to the capital, dead or alive, SHINING or slashing!
2. What made you want to participate in the Metal To The Masses South Wales 2025 campaign? Have you had previous experience? Or is this your first time?
GDM managed to register for a slot in the Cheltenham/SW England M2TM in 2024 on our first attempt, and managed 3rd place without a single member of the audience having heard of us before. We left with a tonne of dregs (what we call our fans) and those who….SAW us continue to follow us in gigs around Bristol, Swindon and Bridgewater to this day. Though our sound is largely punk, we are thrash heads at heart and you’ll hear elements of that in our music, which is why we think our energetic, fun and satirical take at punk metal will be at home at M2TM. Being fiercely Welsh, we would bask in the honour of flying the flag for Barry in this competition for a NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD!
3. M2TM is all about supporting your local scene. How important is the local scene to you as a band?
With 66.6% of the band having being involved in the ‘local scene’ for the past 25 years, and with music industry business models making it deathly challenging for venues to continue supplying awesome grass roots music. READY OR NOT, GDM wish to withstand the undead horde of capitalistic trends to make sure thing that the only thing that isn’t dead is the scene itself. So even though we are dead, we support live music.
4. What are your expectations from being a part of M2TM?
There is nothing scarier or more horrifying than watching the news in 2025! Though screaming about suicidal thoughts, the crumbling of civilisation, the decay of self and mental health is a necessary evil to publicise on stage…..Garbage Day Massacre offer just CHILDS PLAY….and a GET OUT and silly escapism from the FOG of daily death and disaster by putting on an energetic and satirical performance to celebrate the Freddies, Frankensteins, Bates Motels and Babadooks of this god forsaken world! We expect nothing but a rancid time with some rocking and funky folk!
5. What would playing a Sold Out Bloodstock Festival mean to you?
It would enable us to spread our disease across English shores, to taste new flesh, and to prove that we don’t actually intermingle with sheep, but rather a cadaver!
No, but seriously we are three LOST BOYS from A QUIET PLACE with children and a mix of diagnosis of depression, autism and ADHD trying to juggle life, work and family simultaneously. The thought of proving to our children that their dad is a real life rockstar playing their silly songs that we sing together in the car to thousands would be life changing and a much needed lift of confidence for the three of us who would love for this hobby and past time to be a bigger deal in our lives.
The metal fans who actually turn up to gigs and festivals (not the online community) is a very special society, and to be on a platform to supply the soundtrack to the best weekend of 2025 will be an unforgettable and ALIEN experience, and hopefully not our FINAL DESTINATION, but simply an EVENT HORIZON!
6. We encourage all the bands in M2TM to try and check out the other bands, who are you most looking forward to? Who should your fans also try to catch?
Most Looking forward to? ‘Kill by Mouth’ from Swansea as I saw them support my favourite thrash band EVILE back in Xmas 2023 at the Bunkhouse. They blew me away with their energy and attitude, and they were awesome guys as I spoke to them by the bar afterwards.
Who should fans try and catch? ‘Karmen Field’ as I missed them when they won a battle of the bands type event in Cardiff last year which we also competed at. They are a local grass roots up and coming band and supposedly their shows properly smash it and therefore we’d love to send more love their way.
