1. Please introduce yourself for anyone who may not know you. Tell us a little bit more about you as a band.
We’re Painted As Monsters from Caerphilly & Hereford! We’re a 3-piece alt rock/prog/alt metal band. You name it, we’ll probably play it! We have a nice blend of clean and heavy whilst staying melodic. We get compared to bands like Muse, Tool & Breaking Benjamin so hopefully we’ll be able to get people headbanging for a bit and then give them a break. We are in our 30s now after all…
2. What made you want to participate in the Metal To The Masses South Wales 2025 campaign? Have you had previous experience? Or is this your first time?
Aside from our new boy, Scott, we’re pretty well-seasoned in Metal to the Masses competitions. We’ve even participated in Bristol M2TM as part of previous bands. We’ve never been let down by the competition, it always brings a great crowd that welcomes us with open arms when we’ve played, so that’s why we want to continue to be a part of it.
3. M2TM is all about supporting your local scene. How important is the local scene to you as a band?
Huge! We’re absolutely reliant on it as a platform for our music in a live setting. We’re rarely let down by any local scene venue, whether that be the staff or audience. You can always tell it’s filled with people that do it for the love of promoting, playing or listening/watching and we’re lucky to be a part of it.
4. What are your expectations from being a part of M2TM?
Truth be told, no real expectations! We just want to play our heat with smiles on our faces and play our music to the best of our ability. I guess all we could ask for is the crowd to get behind us and give us that extra boost!
5. What would playing a Sold Out Bloodstock Festival mean to you?
It’d be an incredible achievement for us. We’ve been fortunate enough to have festival experience from playing Planet Rockstock last year. The smiles didn’t drop from our faces the whole day, so we’d love the opportunity to experience something like that again. Whilst we might not be a typical Bloodstock band, we’d still know how to get the crowd headbanging. We even had a mosh pit at a previous Fuel gig of ours, so it is possible to mosh to the Monsters.
6. We encourage all the bands in M2TM to try and check out the other bands, who are you most looking forward to? Who should your fans also try to catch?
Just some quick shout-outs to some great bands and people in the Cardiff heats: Risperidrone, Disrupt the Continuum, Copehill Down and Karmen Field. Please lend your ears to Mudlarker over in the Swansea heats too! And we look forward to meeting any band we haven’t met yet, especially the ones in our heat on Friday 14th March.
